Remote sensing

Landsat series

The Landsat series of satellites was launched in the 1970s and still run today. They bring 30 m spectral images (about every week), which help with crop and soil models or can be used as their own. Their products come with many levels of data pre-processing. We only use tier one products, meaning they are cloud free surface reflectance images.

JAXA satellites

The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency brings great satellites for weather, climate, terrain analysis and time series analysis. We mostly use their digital surface models but they have many great products.

Capernicus

From the European Space Agency, these satellites give 10 m spectral images we use when such a resolution is desired. We often use their satellites because they have such great coverage within Africa.

SRTM

We love these products for elevation data. The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission was launched on the old USA space craft and we use the NASASTRM version, which combines data with other satellites and corrects the images making them extremely accurate.

LiDAR

Light detection and ranging is sparse in Africa and can be expensive. Usually conducted from an airplane, they are extremely accurate and detailed products. We only use LiDAR when available or needed with our cloud computing architecture.

Drones

We also love drone data, which is also extremely accurate and detailed. However, we only use drones when the customer wants to and with our cloud computing architecture.
